Pluck & courage

Have you ever heard the word Pluck?

You might know it as the action of picking a ripe apple from a branch, or pulling a stubborn weed out of the garden soil. But "pluck" is also a very old, very special word for a specific kind of bravery.

Pluck is courageous readiness. It is dogged resolution—which is a fancy way of saying you are as stubborn as a puppy who refuses to let go of a favorite stick. It is indomitable perseverance, meaning that no matter how many times a cold wind blows you off course, you pull your backpack straps tight, stand back up, and keep walking.

Pluck doesn't mean you aren't afraid. It means your legs are shaking, but your feet are still taking you exactly where you need to go. Here is how you can find, practice, and use your own pluck on rugged days.
